Management of forest genetic resources in France

Since 1989, France has created a national programme for conserving forest tree genetic resources. It is steered by the National Commission of Forest Genetic Resources (CRGF) which involves central administration, research, public and private forest managers, NGOs. The CRGF proposes the national programme's major guidelines and priorities to the Ministry in charge of Forests. Since 2006, this programme is also part of the National Strategy for Biodiversity.

CRGF (President: F. Lefèvre; Secretary: E. Collin) has created three working groups:

  • in situ conservation and impact of silviculture on the genetic resources (coord. B. Fady & A. Valadon)
  • ex situ conservation and use of the collections (coord. E. Collin & M. Villar)
  • conservation of scattered species (coord. N. Frascaria-Lacoste, G. Largier & B. Musch)
