Since 1989, France has created a national programme for conserving forest tree genetic resources. It is steered by the National Commission of Forest Genetic Resources (CRGF) which involves central administration, research, public and private forest managers, NGOs. The CRGF proposes the national programme's major guidelines and priorities to the Ministry in charge of Forests. Since 2006, this programme is also part of the National Strategy for Biodiversity.
CRGF (President: F. Lefèvre; Secretary: E. Collin) has created three working groups:
French policy and activities for the conservation of FGR - Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of France

French policy and activities for forest reproductive material (FRM) - Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of France

French Strategy for Biodiversity - Forestry Plan - Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Seas

Those articles include a general presentation of the in situ networks of the CRGF (Valadon & Musch 2007) and papers devoted to specific conservation networks (Pinus sylvestris, Picea abies, Abies alba, Fagus sylvatica and Quercus petraea)
