Spain has approved a National Strategy for the conservation and sustainable use of Forest genetic resources (MIMAM, 2006). Since 1988 there is a National Committee on Forest Genetic Resources (NCFGR) which involves central and regional administrations, and with the collaboration of research centres. An advisory group, including NGOS and other sectors involved in FGR conservation was established after the approval of the National Strategy. The NCFGR has approved three National Plans (Conservation of Genetic Resources, Breeding, Conservation of Endangered populations and Evaluation of Genetic Resources).
The main activities involving the National strategy are:
Spanish policy and activities for the conservation of FGR - Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries of Spain

Spanish policy and activities for forest reproductive material (FRM) - Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries of Spain

The different Autonomus Regions provide information at the regional level, as they are the designed authorities for approval of the basic material and the in situ conservation units.
