european forest genetic resources programme
EUFORGEN has developed several databases on forest genetic resources in Europe. During Phase II (2000-2004), the Populus nigra Network developed databases on clonal collections of black and white poplars in different countries. The purpose of the two databases is to facilitate exchange of clones among countries, help detect duplications in national clone collections and ease identification of accessions.
During Phase II, EUFORGEN also created a grey literature database which includes nearly 2,000 references. This database is being converted into the new content management system and will be soon available on the EUFORGEN website.
Presently, a European information system on dynamic gene conservation units of forest trees is being developed by the EUFGIS project. The information system (or EUFGIS Portal) will be launched at the final project meeting in Vienna, Austria in September 2010. After that, the information system will be maintained as part of EUFORGEN. Further information on the EUFGIS project is available at www.eufgis.org
The EUFORGEN Programme is coordinated by Bioversity International.
