International Conference on Population and Conservation Genetics announced for January 2026

The ICPCG 2026 conference in Coimbatore, India (28–30 January) will explore advances in conservation genetics, restoration, and sustainable management of forest genetic resources.

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) has announced the International Conference on Population and Conservation Genetics (ICPCG 2026), to be held from 28 to 30 January 2026 in Coimbatore, India. The in-person event will be hosted by the ICFRE–Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding in collaboration with the IUFRO Working Party 2.04.01 on Population, Ecological and Conservation Genetics and the Asia-Pacific Forest Genetic Resources Programme (APFORGEN).

The conference will bring together researchers, practitioners and stakeholders to address the latest developments in forest genetics and their application to conservation and sustainable management. Discussions will cover a broad range of themes, including:

  • Landscape and ecological genomics

  • Genetic basis of local adaptation

  • Strategies for ecological and economic sustainability of tree genetic resources

  • Genetic and genomic tools for tracing adaptive variability

  • Genetic monitoring and management of tree populations

  • Emerging technologies for climate-resilient trees

  • Habitat and landscape restoration

  • Tree seed systems for ecological restoration

  • Conserving and restoring genetic diversity of forests in Asia and the Pacific

  • Networking and collaboration for conservation of tree genetic resources

  • Participatory forest management

  • Forensic timber identification

Researchers and professionals working in conservation genetics, forestry and related fields are encouraged to participate. Registration is open until 30 November 2025.
